Music for One Apartment and Six Drummers

This is great:
I'd say we have about 24 hours until it's all over the usual blogs. I find the vacuum hose in the final section to be the most implausible. The guy playing the blender turns out to have the most talent, although I suspect all the parts are pretty easy to mime. Bald guy is a close second.

The Surplus

Phil O'Reilly, Chief Executive of Business New Zealand, said: "The business tax reduction from 33 to 30 cents planned for April 2008 could be brought forward to April 2007. The last time the business rate was cut, in 1989, business tax revenue actually went up. In the decade before 1989, revenue averaged around $1 billion a year, while in the decade after, it averaged nearly $3 billion a year - in other words, revenue nearly tripled."
That's interesting.

The last time Pluto was at its perihelion, in 1989, business tax revenue actually went up. In the decade before Alyx was born, Howard Morrison won his last Tui and The Front Lawn won their first, revenue averaged around $1 billion a year, while in the decade after, it averaged nearly $3 billion a year - in other words, revenue nearly tripled."
I wonder if O'Reilly is any relation of that O'Reilly. Also, happy birthday to me.

#xmoto-psp

Happy Birthday Trav. The rest of the post has nothing to do with it being your birthday. You can stop reading now.

There's a few of us playing xmoto, so, I thought I'd start up a private room for us to compare records. Private rooms were introduced in one of the newer versions of xmoto, so, if you're me, you'll have to update to see them. Edgy Eft's version of the game has them. The setup is a little complicated. It goes a little something like this:
  • Ask Justin, Tom, or I for a username and password - I think this sucks, but I guess that's where the 'private' part comes from
  • Go here, select the room 'xmoto-psp' from the drop down, type your login details and hit 'Change of room'
  • Fire up the game, go to 'Options', 'WWW' and then the 'Rooms' sub-tab (the sub-tab kinda slips your gaze - up the top, just under the other tabs)
  • Hit 'Update Rooms', select 'xmoto-psp' from the list, type your login details at the right, then hit 'Save' at the bottom. Nothing apparent will happen until you click 'Check WWW'.
  • Now you're in the room, and the world records in the 'Levels' window should be replaced by records by us lot (not by some insane guy named 'jj'). For extra fun, set your ghost options to show the highscore of the room. You can upload your high scores (if they're better than ours) from the 'View Replays' menu, and you'll be given the option to whenever you get a new high score.
Edit: You should be able to ask anyone who's already joined up for account details.

Good News

This (warning, pdf - this might work though) is fantastic news. The government (in association with the local government, I think) is finalising funding for a fibre network on the Shore. Initial funding looks like $4.6 million dollars, but surely that's a bit cheap for a fibre network - maybe that's the seed fund? Anyway, they're aiming for 2009, and 1Gb/s upload and download. Damn that'd be nice. I wonder if we'll be able to hard drives that fast in 2009? Hell, it's beyond the capacity of my lowly 10/100 network; it'd be faster leeching than at a LAN.

Edit: Well, not such good news. Apparently, it's not so much a network as a couple of pipes. It's going to join schools and the council and hospitals - seems like a lot of places that don't have a use for huge amounts of bandwidth. And while the 'network' is to be 'open access', just how many service providers do they think these public facilities will use?!

In xmoto news, it's just getting crazy. I didn't realise you could submit high scores for the external levels. Well, that's my excuse for being out of the awards till now, anyway.
