Good News
This (warning, pdf - this might work though) is fantastic news. The government (in association with the local government, I think) is finalising funding for a fibre network on the Shore. Initial funding looks like $4.6 million dollars, but surely that's a bit cheap for a fibre network - maybe that's the seed fund? Anyway, they're aiming for 2009, and 1Gb/s upload and download. Damn that'd be nice. I wonder if we'll be able to hard drives that fast in 2009? Hell, it's beyond the capacity of my lowly 10/100 network; it'd be faster leeching than at a LAN.
Edit: Well, not such good news. Apparently, it's not so much a network as a couple of pipes. It's going to join schools and the council and hospitals - seems like a lot of places that don't have a use for huge amounts of bandwidth. And while the 'network' is to be 'open access', just how many service providers do they think these public facilities will use?!
In xmoto news, it's just getting crazy. I didn't realise you could submit high scores for the external levels. Well, that's my excuse for being out of the awards till now, anyway.
