Nice to hear Mr. Walter's voice. I believe this performance was around the same time as the junior jazz group's one. Robbie's went ballistic getting people in the audience to yell 'manamana' into the mic.
Mahna Mahna was 2002 (the same year as I Get A Kick)... this was 2001. I wrote this piece five whole years ago - March-April 2001, if I recall. Holy crap.
Yeah, i was gonna put 'not too sure about the year', but then i thought i'd have some faith in my memory. Cough. I thought we'd only played in that part of the aotea centre that one time, but obviously it was more than that.

Thanks for putting that up, puchu: with my hard drive crash I haven't been bothered ripping my really old compositions onto my (9-month-old) laptop.
I'm just trying to think how many pieces I've written since then which were better than Half Blues - there can't be too many. Various songs for various bands have been better if you count them. The crap I put in for the APO competitions is hardly worth mentioning.
Compare Half Blues to what I've done in three years of uni: maybe three pieces have been more awesome than that? Out of the 20 or so I've had to do? I need to write for big band more.
