Music Recommendation

Well since Alyx was kind enough to talk to us about the new Weezer album and her foray into the emo genre, I thought maybe I should share some info about one of my favourite metal bands. Stratovarius are a Finnish five-piece metal band that evolved from a 3-piece heavily influenced by Black Sabbath and Ozzy "FOOK OFF" Osbourne. They've released 12 studio albums since they formed in 1984, and if you listen in chronological order, the classical influence really starts coming through in the later albums. Fright Night sounds like a generic metal record, but the guitar solos and keyboards meld perfectly in the second album, "Twilight Time" aka Stratovarius II (original release). They released their last original recording in 2004, and I have to say that the combination of symphonic metal and slight folkish influences really do sound better with this band than their straight up metal records of the early 90s.

Calling all Vodafone customers....

If you're an unhappy Vodafone customer who has spent the last 2 years paying 20c per text message, while all your mates are happily texting away paying next to nothing on telecom, then your moment has finally arrived! Yes, thats right, Vodafone has come up with a new deal....free text until 2006! However, there are a few catches, as always with Vodafone. 1) This deal applies only from midnight Friday to midnight Sunday 2) This deal is not available for TXTs sent to 025, 027, or international numbers  3) You must have a minimum 20 cent balance to be able to send messages. Happy texting everyone....on weekends, that is!

Check out http://www.vodafone.co.nz/services/weekend_txt.jsp?item=txt&subitem=weekend_txt for more details...

Dear Diary..

Ok, so I figure this site has been taken off everybody's homepage, and people usually check the site once a week, just to make sure nothing new has come out (Other than Dom). I can't help but feel like part of this is my fault, I'm not trying to fill my ego, it's just that I know that I've neglected the site, and as part of the community, I've been a pretty shitty neighbour.

Recently I got ADSL connected to my house, I love it... the ability to download por.... stuff in my room is awesome. I think it's also a reason for me to spend more time on the internet, as i can now be on 24/7 (This is new to me, let me vent). I want to try and breath some life back into my beloved SE, but I guess I can't do it alone.

One of the reasons I left was because I was sick of the constant snide remarks and general bitchiness of everybody (myself included). I don't want to see this site turned P.C, but it would be nice to be able to make a spelling mistake and not be insulted by several different people. A community has all sorts of people in it, including the occassional asshole, where's Ursula when you need her/him/it.

I guess I could go into a cheesy speech with triumphant music building in the background and a flag with Justin and Dom on it flying in the background, but that's stupid and I'm trying to be sincere. I don't want to lose contact with all of the people I shared so many good times with last year.

Let's see what happens from here.

Photototos

I'm just going to go ahead and link to this page, where you'll see everything.

Justin and I were supposed to so some massive write up of this, but I haven't go around to it and probably won't for a while, and Justin's probably feeling the same. It's fairly self-explanatory though.

T4W Party

Hey guys and girls.

Just wanted to quickly say to everyone who went to the T4W EP release it was really awesome to see everyone and catch up and i hope you bought a CD.  The gig was awesome for anyone who wasn't there (Y werent you??) I'v just got the use of my neck back and the bruises on my legs have begun to subside. Anyhow it was awesome to see you all and I hope we can all stay in touh like Andy said (in his own way) this is a wicked site to stay in touch through and it really sucks to loose contact with friends that you've shared so many awesome times with.

See you all in the near future hopefully

Carl

Wahey!

So we haven't had any new news for a couple of days.

Well, here's some. I'm going to GERMANY. For SEVEN WEEKS. That's right. From 4th December to 29th January, I will be in Baden-Wattemburg which is in Stuttgart.

It's the home of Black Forest chocolate, BMW's and other assorted cars, and (so I'm told) some of the best hard liquor in Germany. Oh yeah. I'll be 16. That's the legal drinking age.

I'll be there over Christmas and New Year's. And it'll be winter. Which means white Christmas!! Shut up about my child-like excitement - I've never seen snow!

So yeah. I'm REALLY REALLY excited.

Yay!

6 months 16 days..

I don't have all that much to say other than the fact that I'm very pleased Google is finally indexing our news items and comments pages properly. That's the reason why the number of Google referrers on the stats page has risen recently, and, specifically, why we're the number one listing for 'and I'm jello baby'.

Hope everyone is well. Welcome to darkclown, by the way, whoever you are - the first new member we've had in a while. Also, to absolutely anyone, put your postal address in the comments and I'll do my best to send you something.

Headlines are important. Really they are.

News. News dammit. Something to write in this here box. Nope. Nothing coming.

How about a horrible stereotypical "blog" (omifuckngod. 'blog'.) post to keep the front-page ticking over? How about that? Well. Then. I'm feeling just great everyone, because of that 'Endurance' reality TV show which comes on every Sunday afternoon. Fourteen or so pairs of fourteen or so year olds face of to win these stone triangle things, which reminded me of a cross between scout badges and the Captain Planet powers - there was one labelled "heart".

Also, because I know you're all so interested, I've started listening to Bright Eyes just a little. Then I stopped, because it's oh so trendy. Then I started again. Then I listened to Interpol and that made me feel better, because they were so obviously shit. Then I stopped listening to anything.

Then I went outside. It was sunny. I like it when it is sunny.

I'm looking to buy a Kelsey letterprint press. If anyone in NZ is reading this and has one up for sale...well, yeah, what are the chances of that. Looks like I'll need to move to America to start my new hobby.

I think there's only one or two addresses I haven't got around to mailing yet. Stephan, Emma. I also have Robert Miles' address, but I'm not sure what I'll send. I didn't put a stamp on one the letters I sent out, and it got delivered fine, so, depending on how much effort I put into each letter I might not give them postage from now on. I've gone through about 15 stamps in the past three weeks, so that's not a bad effort.

Nothing to see here

Our DNS has recently been moved to the same people who do our hosting - dn875, apparently a part of ACSite.net. Of course, they're actually just onselling from enom.com, meaning their interface is out of date and missing some features. My email about this went unanswered.

At the same time I've been trying to get our domain name intergrated with our hosting account - I submitted a support ticket, got a reply saying 'yes, yes, we'll do it as soon as the domain is transferred'. That was about a month ago - have submitted another ticket and got nothing in reply to that one.

So, the end result is that we still have a crappy redirect to se.uu2.org instead of our nice domain name. Oh, and their interface fucks up CNAME records, and actually puts the dot at the end of the aliased name. And, their url redirect has been on the blink for the last 24 hours or so, which explains the low member count.

Well, shit.

Edit: We've now been *moved* to somethingemporium.com. Be advised that se.uu2.org will not work. Update ya bookmarks and tell me if there's anywhere I've used an absolute link.
