Wow!
So yeah. It's been a while since I've done this. I've give you my excuses first.Well, for a start, I had totally forgotten how much work, and how stressful being at uni is. I guess I just got slack in my time at Glidepath. And by that, I’m not saying I did nothing at Glidepath, I think I got used to the fact once I got home from Glidepath, I didn’t have to think about it ever. And uni is totally the opposite. I can’t help but think about how much uni work I have to do, all the time. It’s the last thing I think about before I go to bed. It’s the thing that causes me to jolt awake in the middle of the night. This year, I am the only person doing my course that I know, and sometimes, I barely know myself. I live in constant fear that there is something really important due today that I have just forgotten, or just don’t know about. I can’t keep track of what’s due on what day, or when this trip is. I need someone to organise my life for me – I need a girlfriend.
I’ve pretty much finished the mixing for the These Four Walls EP, for the second time around. I gave Gray the almost final mix yesterday, and I really hope he likes it – it is miles better than the first one, and just quietly, really under the table here, I think its quite wicked. Well, actually, I’ve listened to those same seven songs so many times I can’t even tell what sounds good any more. I’m just sitting here, with my fingers crossed, hoping that Gary doesn’t call me and tell me I have another 20 hours work to do. In a way though, I’m sad to see it go, because now I don’t have any excuses for why I’m so tired all the time, and I’m going to have to think of a new pickup line to try in vain on the ladies. I suppose I could always show them the album I mixed, if my name ends up on it.
My guitar effects loop controller is coming along nicely. Today I mounted the rest of the stuff in the case. I then put it in my rack, and pushed the buttons pretending it was finished, like a little kid, pushing the buttons of his new toy fire truck through the see through window of the box it comes in. It is so close to finished I can almost taste it. It tastes like steel. I’ve played using it a couple of times, and its worked wonders. The first time I used it, I only had it hooked up to my amp. It was using it to do the job a $5 switch would do, but man, it was so much cooler. I’ve got all of the control outputs done, and I just have to get around to hooking up the relays for the effects switching. I have all the pieces, but I just can’t get over the mental block of slamming the bits onto the circuit board and waving my soldering iron madly over it. I don’t know – it’s the most important part, but I just can’t bring myself to do it. There are some bugs in the code as well, like the saving/loading of patches doesn’t work correctly all of the time, and the menu doesn’t have the right feel. It will get there though. When I find the time.
I swear I’ve drawn a comic in my sketch book – It has been such a long time since I’ve done one. I’m getting there I promise you. There are just some other things in my life that I need to get out of the way. I’m going to go and scan it as soon as I’ve written this post, and then I’m going to do my mathematical modelling assignment. In the mean time, here is an excerpt from my thoughts.
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about television. Not so much about watching it, but what is so good about it. It amazes me that there is exactly half an hour of material per episode. I think that amazes me more than the content itself. How the writers come up with exactly half an hour of drama or humour that fits into the same amount of time very week. How can they fully develop an idea, and be sure that everything will work out at the end of the episode? What happens if, for some reason, they don’t have the time in the half an hour to make sure everything works out every episode? I wish my life were more like that. Broken up into manageable chunks of drama with occasional humour that breaks the tension. And that it was clearly defined when my life was normal again at the end of the episode. And that there was the voice over at the end to tell me how everything worked out ok.

Update
I've just finished playing around with what people can see when they're not logged in. The 'permalinks', if I didn't explain them earlier, were an attempt to provide a place where a page with *always* be found, so that people coming from Google and other search engines would be able to find what made them click-through. This didn't really work out, I think mainly because the comments weren't shown on permalink pages, so search engines would treat them as duplicate content and not index them at all. In fact, initially, I did quite a bit of damage to our search rankings because I'm currently detecting user-agents of crawlers and serving a page without the sidebar. I was a little to harsh with what I culled, and I think the crawlers freaked, followed the link to the full content page, and then just indexed that anyway.
What I'm working up to saying is that you can see the comment without being logged in now (like the good ol' days) although it's not heavily advertised that an item has comments. This will increase the actual content of the site somewhere around two-fold, which is always good. I've also just done a bit of work with the sidebar login. It now remembers which page you logged in from and takes you back there once you're logged in. I seem to remember someone asking about this over a year ago, but I can't remember if I ever actually got it working - the source code shows no signs of me ever having done it, so I just don't know.
I've been working on so many sites recently that I've really learnt a lot about how I want to go about developing from now on. I've got a set of basic classes and functions that I take with me everywhere - this sometimes results in pages looking kinda similar, but it's so much easier to get them up and running and they're easy to customise from there. So, after using these lovely tools I've developed over the last months, going back to working with the SE source is just horrible! I'm looking into that rewrite - the bloat is getting pretty unbearable.
One site I'm working on at the moment, just as a personal thing, is something I've tentatively titled woo-mu. I'm sure you'll see where I'm aiming with this one once you view it. What you can't see, though, is how it's implemented in the backend. It's beautiful! Each of the 'console' commands is actually a vanilla php function. It even uses a reflection API to read the code comments (PHPDoc (JavaDoc) style docblocks) to decide if it should include a description of the command in the help listing. Translation: very, very pretty code. So, while it doesn't look like all that much at the moment, I'm thinking of enlisting Justin to do some writing for it to get it really functional.
Edit: Whoops! And of course, it makes use of the new OO stuff in PHP5, so it won't work on our servers. Damn. If you're lucky, you'll be able to catch me online, in which case it'll be here. In the meantime, I'll look around for a free host for it.
And that's all for now. Holidays next week (haha!) so will probably post a bit more then. I've got this idea for a post about an Ozma album - required now that I'm their number 3 fan on AudioScrobbler :-) Ooh. One more link: go!

Guitar Gear
Oh yeah. So I've done a lot of work on my effects controller since I last posted a pic, so here are some new ones.
The effects controller is on the bottom in the first picture, and on the top in the second picture. You can spot it from the back because of the 14 jack connectors!
I'm not sure what is next for it, I've gotta do some thinking so I only have to take it apart once. But it looks like I can take it apart now and work on it for a while, because there is no band practice this week, and then I've got the holidays. Planned improvements are: Getting the LEDs on the pedals working, as well as writing the Controller/Effects Invert, making the binary display on the patch meaningful, and last but not least make the backlight realy controlled. I might also optimize the program structure a bit, it seems to be a bit clunky. But I've been using it and it works like a charm.

Stealage
Those dickheads over a Microsoft have stolen the whole look-at-what-other-people-are-playing idea with their latest version of MSN. Actually, they still don't get it because they can't get their heads around the fact that it's ARTIST - TITLE not the other way round. And they put ugly MSN search links all over the songname. Bah. Baaah.Dominic

All over?!
Well, Recruit training is over...who would have thought?
First off, sorry about last week, I tried to post a 'sizeable' news item about our last field phase, but the computer I was using in the japanese restaurant fucked itself just as I went to send the email (literally).
Anyway, a quick recap. (I'm in Te Anau by the way, my folks are taking a quick Tiki tour of the South of the South and I was thrown on the bandwagon too.) First, our last field phase was AWESOME. Dip Flat was wicked shit man as you'd expect.
The first 4 days were Exercise Defender, which entailed us constructing and defending a Helicopter LZ (Landing zone...) in a 'impedeing civil war' country. It was great. We were assessed on the ability of our section to conduct VCP's (vehicle checkpoints), Sentry posts, Recce Patrols, NBC patrols, Jungle Lane training and as a QRF (Quick Reaction Force). We were on 18-20 hour days with 4-5 hours rest (even though it was a "6" hour period - gotta clean that weapon sometime, and take a dump!!!) It was quite awesome as I've said. You were knackered beyond belief but just kept giving it 150%. Exercise Confirmation was the last few days and this meant we spent the time on rat packs out in the bush under our hootchies (half shelters). It was semi-non tactical however, we still had shit to do in our 12 person section. Each task was about half the day, 3-4 hours each but the best thing was the sooner we finished the sooner we could get the camp site and sleep! But we were still fucked, since the tasks weren't easy. We had an ammo tin carry (two for me full of concrete for 7km, hard...but I guess I'm just a pussy!) with packs and all that kit as well (I was leader too, and kind of screwed it, but we still passed...). And other stuff, like a first aid exercise, to rescue some HALO para jumpers and get them stabilized, a navigation exercise in the hills, night navigation, putting up a mess tent and all that. I'll tell you more later when I got a bit more time.
Grad parade was cool, I was in the defence tactics team, and we got some good pictures, I'll see if we can put them up if I can. But again, Thanks to everyone for your support over the last 13 weeks, its been awesome. I should be back around 5-6pm on Tuesday, and Cringle will know some more later on, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MATE!!! Have a good 19th mate, get creamed and get some (I know you will..you got a very accomodating partner;-))
See you guys soon

All By Himself
So this is what happens when I'm bored and have access to people on webcams, MS Paint and a Print Screen button.
One day, Justin ran out of porn.

He was struck dumb. And something happened to his nose..

When I commented on the messiness of his room, and the unmadeness of his bed, and his resemblence to a monkey in the above picture.. I got this look.

Without girls to ogle, Justin found himself to be utterly, utterly, utterly bored. And in need of natural light.

Then Justin stumbled upon a website. He started to drool, in awe. He couldn't find a clean tissue to wipe up his drool with, so he used his hand. (This movement could also be construed as Justin checking to see if he needed to shave, but I like the drool spin better).

Finally, after the sun had set, and he had changed shirts and grown his hair slightly, Justin had to resort to pulling funny faces to keep his eyes open.

And then he snuggled down with Smokey, to fall asleep by the glow of his monitor.

This has been a educational production to show those uneducated about Justin's habits, just exactly what he does.
And, I know it's a few days early, but this just means I get in first. Happy Birthday, Justin.

Drink! Truth! Cake!
More of me blathering = less pictures of Justin. Well, that's what I figure anyway; they don't teach you that shit in Maths 102. They don't teach you anything in Maths 102. I have a test tomorrow, which is why I'm not sleeping.
This is a post to make it three in a row, and hopefully four tomorrow. So it's not actually about anything. I can live with posting shit because nobody else is. In fact, here's a challenge. I swear I will activate the next piece of non-pornographic news that comes in. That's right, this is your big chance to sneak your uninformed, idiotic or just plain boring thoughts into the public^H^H^H^H^H^HSE arena. All you shoutbox bastards who won't post your dumb views as news are cowards. Cowards with unfulfilled girlfriends. Even you Alyx.
Here's another formula for you dickheads to learn: bitchy news items > bitchy shoutbox posts. Mwahaha. Editorial control is MIIINE!Dominic

I'm Jello, Baby.
I've been corrupted. Again.
Looking at the =w= symbol on Tom's shirt all last Saturday inspired me to go home and listen to the 160mb of Weezer music I had on my computer. And now I'm hooked.
I really really really like El Scorcho. And Rivers' voice. And the new song Beverley Hills may not be musically awesome, but it's got cool Queen vibes.
And I've discovered a new genre of music. It's called little-girl-heartbreaking-wannabe-emo music. And it's the new 'thing'. You know, like boy bands used to be? Think bands like Fallout Boy, The Starting Line, Mest etc. "Where is your boy tonight/I hope is a gentleman." I'm getting into that too. It's groovy.
And in other news, I finally got new download software, courtesy of Justin. LimeWire. It's wicked. And simple to use. And it finds good quality mp3's super fast.
And holidays finish officially today. For everybody still in high school. Which, looking at the Today's logins list, is Me, Laura and Sven.
And according to Dominic's post, if he deems this to be not-pornographic, it gets accepted. Yay.
And I defy you all to point out my bad grammar and the rather large amount of sentences beginning with 'And'.
Bfn.

Its smoko.....again!
Hey all
Just thought I'd submit some bullshit becuase there doesn't seem to be any getting submitted at the moment. And also becuase I seem to be the only person left on RNZAF base Ohakea at the moment - man I need a car!!!
Its good to be back in the north island though, and have good RockFM reception:-) I know this is the last weekend of mid-semester break for you guys so good luck for the next semester!!! However, for the dudes that know me, I'll be back next weekend on Friday...hint..hint. I'll be up in Auckland till the 29th of June (if I pass all my courses) then its back to Ohakea till who knows.
What have I been doing this week? Well, I got to FLY thats right "hands on the controls" FLY and airtrainer (CT-4 - what the red checkers fly) FUCK IT WAS MEAN!!!! I got to pull a loop the loop and fly at 50-100ft along the coast and in the Air Force flying area, and generally buzz around the skies around Ohakea- FUCKIN' COOL man, and I'm not even going to be a pilot yet (or in my career at the moment!!!) The Airtrainer is fucking responsive and its a dream to fly. Hehe it was cool, as soon as we took off he said "you have control" and that was it, I was living the dream haha. But that was just one afternoon. We spent time (i.e. a day drinking coffee) in the Operations room, the control tower and the ATC room down below. Also bimbled around the airfield scaring birds in the Ops ute and generally mincing around in our flight suits clearing one side of the Pilot Training School hangar, and going to smoko every 5 minutes (or at least it feels like it!)
It was awesome getting kitted up and shit though, good fun. We're supposed to get "issued" our flight suits and stuff soon. But I got heaps of courses to do (like another 12 months) till I can breathe kind of easy.
Crack up though, there's us AEOP's (Air Electronics Operators) mincing around base and going to the 42 SQN briefs in the morning surrounded by officers and we are the lowest of the low rank at the moment! Like I said, a LONG way to go.
At the moment I'm the only one in the base "Hot Shots" (Canteen/shop/...general store) and its kinda lonely...so yeah...fuck. nothin' to do but do shit all. But yeah thats what the fuck I've been doin' and I got another week of mincing around trying to look like aircrew and maybe we'll get another flight on the King Air or the Iroquis (UH-1H Helo, like in Battlefield Vietnam...).
Good luck for next week you guys, you'll all be awesome. Hope to see you guys on Friday night if SATS (The armed forces flights put on by the Air Force) is running and I get on it. Look forward to catching up with you guys some more!
