Band expelled from Smokefree event - for smoking

source

A band made a late entry into the Smokefree Rockquest national finals in Wellington last night -- thanks to another band being disqualified for smoking.

Eight Orange Orchard, an incredibly awesome ska band whose band members are students from New Plymouth Girls’ High and New Plymouth Boys’ High, were told yesterday that they had made the finals.

Smoke-free Rockquest media spokesperson Jacquetta Bell said the band was selected after Wairoa College’s Koastline was caught smoking and disqualified from the competition.

She said all band members had signed smoke-free declarations.

How dumb are you to get caught smoking? 8OO kick ass. Good on them. Forcefields kick ass. When's the next round in the uni comp? Update the website please.

Don't know when the next stage for the band comp is (though it should be in a couple of weeks). Will let you all know via Eomething Smporium.

As for the website: well, Jono's feeling like crap and Graham can't be bothered. Need I say more?

Also: Tranzfunktion (funk group which includes Mark from The Forcefields), playing the Quad on Friday 23 September 12-1. Attendance isn't mandatory since there's no voting.

Someone needs to do the impossible and find a better photo of me for the Forcefields website

Just for interest, the two North Shore bands that went through to Nationals, got the top two spots, but in reverse order.
Wicked awesome Doors-like 'The Electric Confectionaires' won (!!) and "We make Tool look emo" Midnight Youth got second. First place was most definitely well deserved, those guys are out of the norm, put on an awesome show, and played *music*.

Uh, Tool *is* emo. Oh, wait, so sorry, 'prog rock' - like that means anything.

Listening to the electrics makes me feel like I'm sitting next to Mick Jagger.

Midnight Youth should've won.

No, they shouldn't have won. They are a carbon copy of all the other bands out there, and its time that diversity was recognised.

Midnight Youth won the regionals, they were recognised for best song, but at the end of the day, the Confectionaires are the better band musically and in terms of putting on a wicked show.
